*{ http://www.attac.pologne.com/wto/appeal_wto_eng.html 16 aout 2002 Association for the Taxation of financial Transactions for the Aid of Citizens 6 novembre } *partie=titre APPEAL IN THE QUESTION OF THE WTO *partie=nil The ATTAC Association Poland calls upon all its members, along with syndicates, agricultural, ecological and students' associations as well as informal groups to organise actions and to participate in the events targeted against the plans of the World Trade Organisation - WTO, that are going to be discussed in Qatar 9-13,XI,2001. The WTO's aim is very simple: a removal of any barriers in the great business and so called "free trade", as well as a warranty of an absolute impunity of the actions of supranational corporations. According to the WTO, all the expenses - ecological or social - resulting from the corporation's activity in a given country or region should be borne by its society and not the corporation's shareholders. The WTO's policy aims at a subordination of nearly all the aspects of life to the dictate of few narrow groups, deriving immense profits from international trade. The corporation's benefit is put before people's and natural environment's existence. More and more people around the world become aware of the insanity of such an order of values and hence they intend to express their discontent, even if the next WTO summit is held on the Moon. The whole economical policy of the WTO deforms the free trade principles, not to mention the notorious violations of the democratic procedures of decision-taking process. The main topic of the incoming negotiations is the GATS agreement (General Agreement On Trade In Services) that can be read about on *{http://www.attac.pologne.com/przeslania/gats.html} We call upon all people to whom democracy constitutes a greater value than profit to organise actions that aim at voicing the protest against the WTO. We propose: 1) Information campaigns that explain the effects of the WTO's policy on the local and global level: use public debates, leaflets, posters and accessible media to inform the society about the changes that the WTO is preparing under the cover of war psychosis. 2) Categorical demand to reveal to the public the details of all the obligations of our country towards the WTO already undertaken or foreseen. 3) Coordinated, creative actions on the local level - such as pickets, happenings that inform about the local threats resulting from the GATS and other elements of the WTO's policy. Facing a quickly spreading resistance to the corporate globalisation, the WTO has chosen Quatar as this year's meeting place - a desert dictatorship on the Arabian peninsula. This won't help. WTO can run away but cannot hide. We know where they're heading to. We will stop them. *{ The ATTAC Association Poland www.attac.org/polska }
