In a keynote speech at the closing session, US Commerce Secretary Donald Evans extolled the virtues of "handshake capitalism" based on trust between business partners and urged corporate executives to "share the American Dream" by helping the poor people of the world. 

He said: "Trust determines whether companies thrive or stumble - whether nations soar… or fade away."

Calling for partnership between business and governments, Mr Evans said: "Corporate leaders must lead on trust, passing on the virtues of free enterprise - just as leaders in government must lead on trust, creating an      environment of democracy and free enterprise that allows capitalism to thrive.

"But only in partnership can we advance the global cause of free trade."
